I’m a Seoul Man, dunnut dun, dunnunun dun

September 14, 2009

Oh yea. So I have my camera now and, as promised, I am going to share with you some of the sights of Seoul I see every day, in my apartment, my job and the area that I live in.

So let’s begin with the tour of the apartment, shall we?

Here is the nighttime view from my apartment window:

The large building to the left is the imposing TechnoMart, a humongous 14 story mall including virtually any consumer electronic good or household appliance one might possible desire (and that doesn’t even include the 5 basement stories which include parking, a clothing store and a grocery supermarket).

To the right is a little plaza area, here shrouded in darkness behind the parking lot, which includes a large clam-shaped theater that has free open air concerts on weekends. The subway line is right next to this plaza.

My apartment:

My living room, bedroom, study, drawing room, laundry room and dining room

I took these pictures a little while ago, when I was still moving stuff around and getting situated. It’s much cleaner now. I swear.

The kitchen:

Ok, so its a kitchenette. Big deal. Same difference. Tomato, tomato.

The real fun is the bathroom. See if you can tell why:

Look closely at the sink

Look closely at the sink

Why, where is that water coming from, anyway? Is that the sink God, blessing his sink child with his holy sprinkle from heaven?

Alas! It is the shower! Yes indeed, I have a shower bathroom. It sprays water all over my floor, my toilet and anything I carelessly left on my sink basin whenever I decide to take a shower. And sometimes I will come home drunk (or sober, a state of mind that is hardly less clumsy or oblivious in my case) and forget to depress the shower knob on my sink, and will get a nice little surprise from Mister Shower up top.

I was feeling clever, a dangerous state for me to be in, and decided I would try to take more sneaky and enigmatic pictures to demonstrate the strangeness of my shower bathroom, which lead me to shoot this series of pseudo-artsy shower shots with me getting drenched by my shower and trying to look nonchalant. I ended up soaked and none the more clever or artsy for it:

More to come (pictures, not shower, I promise)! Next installment: my school

Ok, so I decided we the peoples need a new type of blog that allows comments at various points in the blog rather than this “save your thoughts till the end” bullcrap. I had lots of comments, but forgot them all by the time I got to this point.

It’s a pretty nice view of Seoul. Do you live in a skyscraper-like apartment?

Yes I do — its near Sindorim Station, 25 stories high. I live on the 17th floor, hence the really nice view

i went crazy with jealousy over your many rooms — he has a study???? — and couldn’t get over the idea that you would be offered a study by your pre-prepared room, that you would live in an apartment in korea, and have all of that. then i got it.

not impressed with the shower pics.
